The variety belongs to historical landraces distributed in the southern regions of Italy and on the islands. In 1948, selection was carried out based on this material. Historically, the variety was used for the production of pasta.

Genetic analysis confirmed that the variety is a mixture of different genotypes. Concise data indicate high protein quality and grain yield per spike, which makes it a promising material for breeding.
