The variety is a traditional population characteristic of the Caltanissetta province in Sicily, preserved in genetic collections. The plant is characterized by a semi-prostrate habit, a strong waxy bloom on the flag leaf sheath, and medium pubescence intensity on the last stem node.

The spike is characterized by the absence or weak expression of a waxy bloom and the presence of medium-length awns. As a population variety, it does not have the standardized yield indicators of modern hybrids, and its technological characteristics and protein content may vary depending on growing conditions.
