The variety belongs to the spring type of durum wheat. Its pedigree is represented by a combination of Appulo and Adamello. In scientific literature, the variety is widely used as an object of genetic research, including the study of the influence of heat stress on grain filling and the development of starch granules.

The variety serves as a model for molecular genetic work, in particular for the analysis of rust and powdery mildew resistance genes. There are discrepancies in classification: some publications mention research lines under this name in the context of soft wheat, however, generally accepted databases classify it as Triticum turgidum ssp. durum.
