The variety is early-maturing and shorter compared to Senatore Cappelli. It possesses increased resistance to lodging and demonstrated higher yields than many other varieties and populations of that time.

The grain quality and the characteristics of the pasta produced from it are rated as lower than those of the Senatore Cappelli variety. Increased lipoxygenase activity is noted. The variety was intended for cultivation in the conditions of southern Italy.
