The variety is a semi-dwarf plant, slightly shorter in height than the Siete Cerros variety. Its genetic background includes forms such as Tremez Molle, Dwarf/2 Tehuacan, Zenati/Bouteille, Wells, and Barrigon Yaqui Dwarf.

The variety possesses stem rust resistance genes YrPr1 and YrPr2, however, it showed susceptibility to a number of rust races prevalent in the USA in the early 2000s. Traditionally, the variety is classified as a durum wheat used in the production of pasta, semolina, and bulgur.
