The variety is synthetic and was created as a result of collaboration between the French National Institute for Agricultural Research and the Plant Breeding Institute in Cambridge. The plant is distinguished by its short stature and small number of leaves.
The variety has the ability to form a large number of pods on a single stem. In experiments conducted in Germany, Avrissot was classified as an insufficiently winter-hardy line, which limits its cultivation in regions with a severe continental climate.
