The plant reaches a height of 100–150 cm, has thin, densely pubescent twining stems, paripinnate leaves with tendrils, and a deep taproot system. The inflorescences are multiflorous racemes of purple-violet or blue-violet color. The fruits are short multi-seeded pods with small dark seeds.
The variety is a winter type: flowering begins 60 days after sowing, technical maturity occurs after 120 days. The crop is characterized by winter hardiness down to –20°C with snow cover and resistance to diseases. It is prone to lodging, therefore cultivation in mixtures with cereal crops is recommended.
The protein content in dry matter is 21–23%, and in seeds is about 30%. The variety is undemanding to soils, adapted to sandy and slightly acidic soils, but does not tolerate waterlogging. It possesses the ability for nitrogen fixation, which allows it to be used for soil enrichment and protection against erosion.
