The variety has Arab roots and belongs to ancient "pre-phylloxera" varieties. At present, the plant is undergoing a recovery process, is maintained in genetic resource collections, and is used in winemaking on Mallorca.

The plant possesses high resistance to water stress, regulating stomatal activity during moisture deficits. In experimental conditions, the variety demonstrated a yield of up to 7.8 kg per vine, however, a low sugar concentration in the must was observed.

Old vines are often infected with viruses such as leafroll virus, fanleaf degeneration, and fleck. To obtain healthy material, shoot tip culture and thermotherapy methods are applied.
