The «Черная жемчужина» variety bred by the Ya. I. Potapenko All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking is a vigorous plant obtained by crossing hybrids of the Amursky, Avgust, Levokumsky, and Magarachsky varieties. This variety is a wine grape variety intended for the production of red wines with a pronounced muscat tone.

In international practice, the name «Black Pearl» may apply to various table grape varieties unrelated to Russian breeding. Due to the lack of a single botanical reference, the name is often used as a trade or common designation for different types of plants and beverages.
