The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and is considered traditional for the Galicia region. Within the D.O. Monterrei controlled designation of origin, it is authorized for use in white wine blends, where its proportion typically does not exceed 40%.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by medium-sized, loose clusters. Produce from these grapes is distinguished by a pronounced taste with a bitter note. In the D.O. Monterrei cultivation zone, the variety is considered rare.

Genetic research and data from specialized catalogs allow Blanca de Monterrei to be identified as a synonym for the Doña Blanca variety, also known by the names Síria and Moza Fresca.
