Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is an autochthon of northeastern Spain and is genetically derived from a natural cross between the Hebén variety and an unknown parent variety. It has a number of synonyms, including Trepat, Embolicaire, Traput, Trepan, Parrel, and Carlina.

The plant is characterized by early bud break, which makes it susceptible to the risk of spring frosts, and a late berry ripening period. The bunches are large and dense, and the berry skin is relatively thick. The variety is characterized by moderate yield, poor drought tolerance, and susceptibility to downy mildew and gray mold.

It is used primarily in winemaking to create fresh fruity rosé, Cava category sparkling wines, and light red wines. Wines from this variety are characterized by a light color, high acidity, moderate tannins, and aromas of red berries with spices.
