The variety belongs to the group of late or very late varieties in terms of harvest time. Some materials indicate it as a descendant of the Madeleine Angevine variety. International UPOV documents record the presence of dense pubescence on the tip of the young shoot for this variety.

The variety is used in winemaking, however, its commercial cultivation in Germany is extremely limited or practically non-existent. In literature, Dalkauer is sometimes confused with the Dalkauer Weiße variety, which has a different origin.
