The name Dame noire is often used as a synonym for the wine grape variety Jurançon noir, obtained by crossing the varieties Folle blanche and Cot. This variety is intended for the production of red wines, however, in a number of regions of France, its use has been restricted.

This name is also encountered as a synonym for the variety Fuella nera (Folle Noire), grown in the Bellet region. This mid-ripening variety is susceptible to gray mold and powdery mildew, and the wines produced from it are distinguished by moderate acidity, pronounced tannins, and aromas of dark berries and plum.

In some sources, the name Dame noire is mentioned as a synonym for the rare variety Douce Noire grise. In addition, the name is often used by wineries as a marketing name for cuvées, which may include various varieties, such as Gamay, Pinot noir, Mourvèdre, Négrette or Syrah.
