The name Sirakuzan does not refer to a separate botanical variety, but acts as a synonym for the well-known variety Nero d'Avola. Its origin is linked to Sicily, from where it spread to Maltese winemaking.

Wines produced from this grape possess a powerful taste with aromas of plum, ripe dates, red fruits, and characteristic notes of leather. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety in the context of using the name Sirakuzan are not distinguished separately from the general data for Nero d'Avola.
