The variety is a representative of the Vitis vinifera L. species and can be found under the synonym Grumet Negre. The vine is vigorous with a semi-erect habit, requiring long pruning. Bud burst occurs shortly after the Chasselas variety, and fruit ripening occurs four weeks after it.

Young shoots have dense cobwebby pubescence and bronze spots on the leaves. Mature leaves are round, three- or five-lobed, with an open petiole sinus and a finely blistered surface. Clusters are large, with a long, poorly lignifying rachis; berries are of medium or large size with abundant bloom and juicy flesh of simple taste. The variety shows low susceptibility to grey mold.
