The Váh variety is a product of breeding at the Research Station for Viticulture and Enology in Modra. It is part of a group of related varieties bred in Slovakia and is known under the synonym CAAB 3/13.

The grapes are used for producing red wines characteristic of the Slovak terroir. Furthermore, this variety is of interest for biotechnological research as a source of trans-resveratrol and other stilbenes in cell cultures.
