Linum usitatissimum L.
A fungal disease of flax caused by the pathogen Colletotrichum lini, which affects all plant organs from seedlings to seeds and can reduce yield by up to 40%. It is characterized by the appearance of ulcers, marbled spotting, and pinkish acervuli in humid weather.

The causative agent of the disease is the imperfect fungus Colletotrichum lini, which infects plants at all stages of vegetation. In seedlings, the disease manifests as yellow-orange ulcers on the roots and hypocotyl, which often leads to the death of the seedlings. Sharply defined spots appear on the leaves, and characteristic marbled spotting develops on the stems, which can spread into total browning.
Infection of the bolls leads to the formation of shriveled seeds with low germination rates. A diagnostic feature in humid conditions is the formation of pinkish cushions with conidia and dark setae on the plant tissues. Strains of varying virulence have been identified within the pathogen population; however, specific resistance genes in the crop have not been identified.
Breeding for resistance is complicated by a lack of immunity sources and an intermediate type of trait inheritance, which is presumably controlled by additive genes with recessive expression. Currently, highly resistant varieties are virtually absent in commercial production, so selection is conducted using infectious nurseries.
