Anthracnose of Yellow Lupin

The disease is caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lupini, which infects all above-ground parts of the plant. A characteristic symptom on stems and petioles is their deformation, resembling a "shepherd's crook," along with the appearance of sunken lesions with a pinkish-orange center containing the conidia of the pathogen.

Infection of the pods leads to their curling and the formation of contaminated seeds; in cases of severe disease progression, plant death and the focal spread of the infection across the field are observed. There are no completely immune varieties of yellow lupin, and genetic resistance is of a complex, tolerant nature without clearly identified and nomenclaturally designated resistance genes.
