Lupinus luteus L.
Fusarium wilt of yellow lupin, caused by the specialized fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lupini, is a dangerous disease leading to the destruction of the vascular system and the death of the entire plant.

The primary causal agent of the disease is the imperfect fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lupini; in addition, F. avenaceum and F. roseum species may be involved in root infection. The pathogen is characterized by the presence of specialized races: race 1 and race 2 are pathogenic specifically to yellow lupin, and strains capable of overcoming the resistance of breeding varieties such as Afus, Jantar, and Refusa have been recorded in Poland.
Symptoms appear during the rosette or budding stage and are characterized by yellowing, curling, and subsequent wilting of the leaves. Browning of the vessels is observed in stem cross-sections, and under high humidity, a white or pink fungal mycelium coating forms on the root collar.
Genetic resistance of the crop to the disease has been studied to a limited extent; however, the dominant gene Fus1 was identified in Portuguese samples. In modern breeding, resistance is more often ensured by complex selection against infectious backgrounds, as the inheritance of the trait can be controlled by both dominant and recessive genes.
