Rose fragrance is an important varietal trait evaluated organoleptically using point scales. Scent intensity is genetically determined by a recessive gene and is highly dependent on the flower opening stage, time of day, lighting, and the agrotechnical condition of the plant.

The complexity of breeding for this trait is due to the recessive nature of the gene responsible for scent intensity, which was often sacrificed during selection for hardiness and vase life.

The intensity of the fragrance is strongly influenced by environmental factors: peak intensity is observed during the semi-open flower phase under warm, sunny, and calm weather conditions, primarily in the morning hours from 9 to 11. Adverse conditions, such as heat above 30 degrees, high humidity, a shortage of sunlight of less than 6–8 hours per day, or a suppressed state of the bush, lead to a significant decrease in scent intensity.
