Sesamum indicum L.
The main bacterial diseases of sesame are bacterial blight and leaf spot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. sesami and Pseudomonas syringae pv. sesami.
In the reference 3 varieties crop Sesame, where this is mentioned in the description.
Bacterial blight of sesame is caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas campestris pv. sesami, while bacterial leaf spot is caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. sesami. The diseases manifest on the above-ground parts of the plant, starting from the 4–6 leaf stage up to maturity.
Primary symptoms include water-soaked translucent spots that eventually darken to brown or black and acquire an angular shape. Under high humidity, a characteristic bacterial exudate forms on affected areas of leaves, stems, and petioles, leading to defoliation and general crop suppression.
In breeding, resistance to these pathogens is evaluated not through the presence of specific dominant genes, but quantitatively using the Area Under the Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC). Research on genotypes is aimed at studying the expression of candidate genes responsible for the stress response.
