The diameter of the Gerbera flower head is a key breeding and commercial trait that determines the market grade of cut flowers. The size of the inflorescence ranges from 2.5 cm in mini-varieties to 17 cm in large-flowered forms.

Measurement of the head diameter is carried out at the phase of full inflorescence opening, when the outer rows of disc florets are positioned perpendicular to the peduncle. To obtain precise data in breeding, a digital caliper is used. Depending on the cultivar type, mini-varieties with a diameter of 2.5–7 cm, standard cut-flower forms with values of 7–13 cm, and large-flowered specimens reaching 14–17 cm are distinguished.

The size of the inflorescence directly affects the commercial classification of Gerbera, where larger flowers, provided they meet peduncle quality standards, are assigned to the highest categories. The size metric is functionally related to the intensity of agronomic practices: large-flowered forms require a strict balance of nitrogen-phosphorus nutrition and lighting, as a disruption in the mineral nutrition regime negatively impacts the proportions and development of the flower head.
