A complex disease of triticale caused by fungi of the genus Fusarium, manifesting as Fusarium head blight and root rot. The disease is characterized by polygenic resistance and the absence of specific pathogen races.

The causative agents of Fusarium infection in triticale include a wide range of fungal species of the genus Fusarium, among which the most common are Fusarium poae, F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. sporotrichioides, F. oxysporum, F. graminearum, F. sambucinum, F. cerealis, and F. tricinctum. The composition of pathogens varies depending on regional cultivation conditions.

Symptoms of spike infection include premature whitening of individual parts of the spike during the grain-filling period, the appearance of pale pink, orange, or reddish mycelial growth at the junctures of the glumes, as well as the formation of shriveled, wrinkled grains with a characteristic pinkish tint.

There are no triticale varieties immune to Fusarium infection, as resistance to the disease is relative and polygenic in nature. Specific nomenclature for resistance genes is not used in breeding, and the assessment of varietal quality is conducted primarily based on field tolerance to infectious pressure.
