Cultivation
Alstroemeria L.
Potted alstroemeria cultivation is based on the use of compact hybrids 30–60 cm tall, which require specific substrate and nutrition management, distinct from commercial cut-flower technologies.
In the reference 25 varieties crop Alstroemeria, where this is mentioned in the description.
Specially bred compact series, genetically adapted to a limited substrate volume, are selected for potted culture. Unlike tall cut-flower varieties, these plants possess sturdy stems and do not require trellises or staking, which allows for the maintenance of a decorative shrub habit.
The cultivation technology requires regular repotting, for example, from 9 cm to 3-liter containers, to prevent excessive root compaction. To maintain continuous flower stem development, potassium fertilization and the use of breathable substrates with a drainage layer are necessary.
Unlike the industrial method of shoot snapping to stimulate growth, in potted culture, all agrotechnical practices are aimed at maintaining the vegetative mass of the shrub. Plants of this type are optimized for repeat flowering within a single season under patio or indoor conditions.
