When cucumber plantings are too dense, characteristic morphological changes occur: stem elongation, increased internode length, and reduced branching. These processes lead to a delay in the onset of fruiting, a decrease in parthenocarpy, slower fruit development, and an increased risk of disease due to poor aeration.
Optimal parameters depend on growing conditions: in winter-spring greenhouses, they range from 2.0–3.5 plants per m²; on trellises in open fields — 3–6 plants per m²; in commercial plantings — 10–15 plants per m² (up to 20 for short-vined varieties); and in seed crops — approximately 70 thousand per ha.
