Coreopsis Bedding

Coreopsis L.

The use of Coreopsis in flower beds is based on varying cultivar heights and combining its delicate foliage with other perennials. Agrotechnical practices include pinching, deadheading to stimulate blooming, and limiting nitrogen fertilization to prevent excessive vegetative growth.

In the reference 18 varieties crop Tickseed, where this is mentioned in the description.

To create structural compositions, tall Coreopsis species are planted in the background of flower beds, while low-growing forms, such as those in the 'Zagreb' group, are suitable for borders. The delicate texture of whorled Coreopsis allows for creating contrasting combinations with massive plants and ornamental grasses. Optimal companion plants include roses, lilies, salvias, veronicas, and silver-foliage plants.

In flower bed conditions, to maintain aesthetic appeal, shoots should be pinched in early June and faded flower heads removed in a timely manner. After the main flowering wave, plants are cut back by a quarter of their height to stimulate a second flush of blooms. Planting density should range from 20 to 50 cm to ensure air circulation and disease prevention; it is crucial to avoid excessive nitrogen nutrition, which suppresses flowering.

Coreopsis is characterized by active self-seeding, which requires monitoring the boundaries of planting areas in strictly organized compositions. Excessive fertilizer application stimulates overgrowth of green mass at the expense of flowering, so moderate compost application is recommended.
