A method of growing Coreopsis in a limited volume of substrate, requiring the selection of compact cultivars, strict soil pH control, and a specific irrigation regime to prevent root rots.

Compact, bushy forms such as Coreopsis verticillata or dwarf varieties of C. grandiflora reaching up to 45 cm in height are most suitable for containers, as tall cultivars are prone to lodging and stem exposure. When planting, it is necessary to ensure high-quality drainage, as water stagnation provokes the development of root and basal rots caused by Pythium, Phytophthora, and Fusarium pathogens.

The optimal substrate pH for Coreopsis is 5.8–6.2. Values below 5.4–5.6 lead to magnesium deficiency and interveinal chlorosis, while exceeding the 6.2–6.5 threshold blocks iron uptake, causing chlorosis of young leaves and stunted growth. In a container environment, irrigation should be performed only after the top layer of soil has dried out.

A particular threat when growing in containers is the weevil, whose larvae damage the root system. When transplanting plants from nursery pots, it is important to spread the roots if they are heavily compacted to accelerate rooting in the new substrate.
