When incorporating Phlox paniculata into bedding, the key factor is planting density, which dictates air circulation. For tall varieties, a spacing scheme of 60x60 cm is considered optimal. With denser planting at intervals of 35–40 cm, regular division of the clump every 3–4 years is necessary to prevent the inflorescences from becoming smaller and to reduce the risk of powdery mildew infection.

Given the crop's tendency for lower leaf senescence under nutrient or moisture deficiency, it is recommended to combine phlox with low-growing perennials or annuals in compositions to cover the base of the clump.
