Verbascum possesses a vigorous taproot that is highly sensitive to damage, making transplanting undesirable in container cultivation. It is optimal to select dwarf varieties for planting, such as Verbascum 'Letitia', as tall species require large-capacity containers to ensure the stability of the flower stalks.

A critical condition is the use of highly drained substrates with the addition of sand or gravel, as the crop is prone to damping-off. Despite its drought tolerance in the wild, container-grown plants require regular watering with periods of soil drying. In confined volumes, weevil larvae pose the primary threat to the root system.
