The variety is a dwarf perennial forming a basal rosette of pubescent green leaves. The plant develops upright spicate inflorescences, the flowering of which continues from June to August.

The plant is a xerophyte and possesses winter hardiness. It is sensitive to waterlogging; therefore, heavy and damp soils are detrimental to it. It is used in ornamental gardening for borders, group plantings, and container cultivation; inflorescences are suitable for cutting.
