Root rots of mullein

The primary pathogens responsible for root rots in species of the genus Verbascum L. are the soil-borne fungi Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum, Macrophomina phaseolina, and Pythium debaryanum. Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium solani are considered the most aggressive pathogens for this crop.

The clinical presentation of the infection manifests as yellowing followed by wilting of the above-ground part of the plant. As the infection progresses, the tissues of the roots and rhizomes are destroyed, which, in the absence of control, leads to the total death of the plant.
