Lupinus albus L.

White lupin is valued as a high-protein forage crop with a crude protein content of 35–50% and 8–12% oil. A key feature is the absence of trypsin inhibitors, which allows the grain to be fed without heat treatment.

The metabolizable energy of white lupin reaches 15.0 MJ/kg DM, exceeding that of narrow-leaf and yellow lupin species.

Compared to soybean, white lupin is better adapted to challenging climatic conditions and provides a high yield of protein per hectare. In broiler diets, its share can reach up to 25% without loss of productivity. The main limitations in its use are related to the high content of non-starch polysaccharides, which requires careful formulation in poultry farming, and the necessity of selecting anthracnose-resistant varieties.
