Lupinus albus L.
A fungal disease of white lupin caused by the pathogen Colletotrichum lupini, characterized by high aggressiveness and the potential to cause crop failure. The disease manifests through necrosis of all aerial organs and a characteristic curvature of the stems («shepherd's crook»).

The causal agent of anthracnose in white lupin is the imperfect fungus Colletotrichum lupini, specifically the variety C. lupini var. lupini. The pathogen possesses significant genetic diversity, with the most dangerous strains belonging to the so-called group II, which exhibit high aggressiveness toward this crop.
Symptoms of the disease appear at all stages of vegetation: from necrosis on cotyledons and constrictions on the root collar to the curvature of stems and petioles, known as the «shepherd's crook» symptom. Infection of the pods leads to their deformation and substantial seed loss.
Breeding for resistance is hindered by the lack of cultivars with complete immunity to the pathogen in global practice. Specific resistance genes, similar to those known for narrow-leaf lupin, have not yet been described for white lupin, which makes the problem of controlling the disease extremely urgent.
