A fungal disease of nectarine caused by the pathogen Taphrina deformans, which manifests as the deformation of young leaves, shoots, and fruits at the beginning of the growing season.

The causative agent of the disease is the ascomycete fungus Taphrina deformans (Berk.) Tul. The infection appears during bud burst, when yellowish or reddish-purple blisters emerge on young leaf blades. The leaf tissues thicken, become brittle, curl, get covered with a whitish bloom, and drop prematurely.

On shoots, the disease causes twisting, thickening, and shortening of internodes, which leads to the formation of "rosettes" and often causes them to freeze in winter. Fruits are affected less frequently, but shiny blisters, cracks, and deformations can form on their surface, leading to premature fruit drop.

There are no genetically resistant nectarine cultivars against this disease. Cultivar susceptibility is evaluated empirically, and observed field resistance is often associated with differences in the timing of phenological stages, which allows plants to "escape" infection during periods favorable for the pathogen.
