Variety traits

Chrysanthemum double-flowering

Chrysanthemum L.

Chrysanthemum double-flowering is a morphological trait determined by the ratio of ray florets to disc florets in the capitulum. It is a genetically determined cultivar characteristic rather than a pathology.

In the reference 344 varieties crop Chrysanthemum, where this is mentioned in the description.

The double-flowering trait is based on inflorescence structure: single forms contain 1–4 rows of ray florets, semi-double forms have at least five rows, and in double forms, almost all florets are ray florets. Evaluation is performed visually based on cultivar descriptors in DUS standards, with the degree of trait expression varying from the prevalence of disc florets to their complete replacement.

Although double-flowering is a genetic trait, its expression is influenced by external factors, including lighting conditions, temperature regimes, and agronomic indicators. Stressful conditions or the use of poor-quality planting material can lead to a decrease in the varietal typicality of inflorescences, which manifests as a loss of double-flowering and a transition to simpler morphological forms.
