Cultivation
Brassica napus L.
A technological parameter measured by the number of viable seeds per hectare, which critically influences plant density and crop productivity. Optimal values depend on the crop type, biological characteristics of the hybrids, and sowing dates.
In the reference 20 varieties crop Rapeseed, where this is mentioned in the description.
For rapeseed, the priority is to calculate the seeding rate in millions of viable seeds per hectare rather than in kilograms. Rapeseed hybrids possess high compensatory capacity and require lower density than open-pollinated varieties, which need denser sowing to form an optimal stand.
The target stand density for winter rapeseed in spring is 50–60 plants per m², which requires 0.6 to 1.0 million viable seeds per hectare when sown in autumn. For spring rapeseed, the optimal range is higher, at 2–3 million viable seeds per hectare, due to a shorter growing season and lower individual plasticity.
Rapeseed is extremely sensitive to overcrowding, which leads to lodging and reduced yields due to intraspecific competition. Agrotechnical adjustments to the rate must account for sowing dates: for early sowing, the rate is reduced, while for late sowing or in cases of moisture deficiency, it is increased, based on the 1000-seed weight.
