The seeding rate of maize is determined by the target plant population at harvest and is calculated based on the number of viable seeds per hectare, taking into account a 5–20% safety margin.

The calculation of the rate is based on the characteristics of the hybrid: early-maturing and compact forms are sown at a higher density, while tall-growing types require more sparse spacing. Key agrotechnical factors include moisture availability and soil fertility: in conditions of moisture deficit, the seeding density is reduced to minimize intraspecific competition for resources.

Maize is characterized by low compensatory ability; therefore, uniform precision planting in rows with 70 cm row spacing is critical. Planting errors, such as skips or doubles, directly reduce yield. Increasing density above 80–90 thousand plants/ha is economically inefficient in many conditions, as it does not provide an increase in ear productivity.
