The color of gerbera ray florets is a key qualitative trait determined by flavonoid and carotenoid content. It is evaluated using the RHS color chart and the CIEL*a*b* system, taking into account the genetically determined disc color.

Gerbera ray floret coloration covers a wide spectrum, with the exception of blue. An important genetic marker is the color of the inflorescence disc: a dark disc color is determined by the dominant Dc gene, while light coloration is due to the recessive dc allele. The Royal Horticultural Society color chart, as well as instrumental measurement methods using spectrophotometers and colorimeters, are used for precise shade documentation.

Color saturation and stability are directly dependent on light intensity during the cultivation period. Under light deficiency, petal brightness decreases, which requires adjustment of the light regime in commercial production. Variety selection is based on commercial color stability, ensuring no fading or tone change during subsequent transport and product storage.
