Rapeseed shattering refers to the resistance of siliques to dehiscence, which determines yield losses during maturation and harvesting. This trait depends on the anatomical structure of the silique tissues and genetic factors.

At the molecular-genetic level, resistance to shattering is linked to the activity of specific genes, such as BnTCP8.C09. Selecting varieties with high genetic resistance allows not only for a reduction in seed losses but also for a decrease in weed infestation from volunteer plants in subsequent crop rotations, while improving harvesting efficiency across varied timelines.
