Clematis field cultivation

When planting clematis, it is essential to bury the root collar 5–10 cm deep, which is necessary for the development of additional shoots from dormant buds and for protecting the crown center from winter frost. The soil environment must have a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction, and when working on heavy soils, the installation of drainage is mandatory to prevent waterlogging, which is detrimental to the root system.

Agrotechnology requires specific zoning: the aerial part must receive maximum sunlight, whereas the root zone needs shading through mulching or by planting low-growing plants. When placing vines on supports, a distance of 50–80 cm from building walls must be maintained to protect against dripping water, and wind protection must be provided, as the fragile stems are sensitive to drafts.
