A fungal disease of Asian pear caused by the ascomycete fungus Venturia nashicola, which is biologically and genetically distinct from the pathogen causing European pear scab.

The scab pathogen Venturia nashicola exhibits high host specificity and infects Pyrus pyrifolia, P. ussuriensis, and P. bretschneideri species. The pathogen affects leaves, fruits, and young shoots, causing the appearance of olive-green or brown velvety spots, uneven cracking of the fruit skin, and the formation of lesions on shoots.

For this pathogen species, pathogenic specialization has been established, including at least seven described races, the classification of which is based on their ability to infect different pear genotypes. Breeding programs are aimed at incorporating resistance genes, such as the dominant genes Vn and Rvn3, as well as the use of quantitative trait loci (QTL).
