Variety traits
Vicia sativa L.
The productivity of common vetch (Vicia sativa) is evaluated based on seed performance (seed yield, pod structure elements) and forage quality (green mass yield, hay yield, and protein accumulation).
In the reference 29 varieties crop Common vetch, where this is mentioned in the description.
Seed productivity of common vetch is determined by yield in t/ha or c/ha, as well as yield structure: the number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, and seed weight per plant. When evaluating forage productivity, the yields of green mass (up to 20–30 t/ha) and hay (5–8 t/ha) are measured, and protein accumulation and feed unit content are calculated.
Variety testing takes into account the crop's ability to produce yields both in pure stands and in mixed stands with oats. Key factors of productivity include lodging resistance and responsiveness to agronomic practices, such as seed inoculation and liming. A seed yield at the level of 1.5–2.0 t/ha is considered a good indicator of seed productivity.
