The primary pathogens of rust on Veronica are the fungus Puccinia veronicae-longifoliae, as well as the species Uromyces veronicae identified on Veronica orientalis subsp. nimrodi. The infection manifests as reddish-brown depressed spots on the upper side of the leaves, often surrounded by a yellow halo, and spore-bearing pustules on the underside.
During intense development of the pathogen, discoloration of the tissues to a bronze or purple hue is observed. Severe infestation leads to premature yellowing, leaf drop, and overall suppression of the plant's vegetative mass.
