Septoria Blight of Pea

Pisum sativum L.

A fungal disease of peas caused by the pathogen Septoria pisi West., affecting all above-ground plant organs. It is characterized by the appearance of diffuse spots with the formation of pycnidia in the center.

In the reference 5 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causative agent of the disease is the fungus Septoria pisi West., which affects leaves, stems, and pods of the plant throughout the entire growing season, reaching its peak development during the flowering phase. Externally, the infection manifests as pale yellow or brown irregular spots, often located along the margins of leaf blades. A diagnostic sign is the formation of dark brown semi-immersed pycnidia in the center of the spots.

The infection is capable of penetrating the seeds, causing the hilum area to turn pink. A specific intraspecific classification of pathogen races and specific pea resistance genes to this pathogen have not been described in modern science. Evaluation of varietal resistance is based on field resistance indices and scoring of infection severity under disease-inoculated conditions.
