The vigor of soft wheat is determined by a laboratory method of germinating seeds in containers with sand moistened to 60% of its water-holding capacity. During the analysis, seeds are sown under a 3 cm layer of dry coarse sand and kept for 10 days at a temperature of 16–18 °C. The main evaluation criteria are the percentage of healthy seedlings that have emerged and their mass calculated per 100 seeds.

For regionalized wheat varieties, vigor indices typically range from 85–96%. Values below 85% indicate the presence of latent defects or weakened seed material. High seed vigor ensures uniform and even emergence, the ability of seedlings to penetrate the soil crust, and a supply of nutrients, which positively correlates with the final grain yield.
