Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser.

Inflorescence formation occurs primarily on the previous year's shoots, which requires caution during pruning to preserve flower buds. There are remontant varieties capable of developing inflorescences on both previous-year and current-season shoots, which increases flowering reliability in the event of winter damage.
