The crop yield formation process consists of two phases: growing taproots in open field conditions and the subsequent forcing of leaf rosettes. When assessing productivity, the mass of marketable heads obtained per unit area at the end of the forcing period is taken into account, with the yield potential directly depending on the quality of the taproot biomass formed during the first stage.
Typical yield indicators for Witloof-type chicory range from 4 to 6 kg per 1 m², although in some cases, this figure can reach 12 kg per 1 m². The final productivity is determined by the genetic potential of the cultivar, plant stand density, quality of the taproots, as well as strict adherence to temperature, humidity, and light conditions during forcing.
