Pea yield

Pisum sativum L.

Pea yield is a key productivity indicator measured in centners or tonnes per hectare, which includes separate accounting for grain and green mass.

In the reference 430 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

When evaluating pea varieties during variety trials, yield is recorded on plots, with separate data collection for grain at the full maturity stage and for green mass at the lower pod filling stage. To make the data comparable, the mass of the green portion is recalculated to absolute dry matter, taking moisture percentage into account.

Average pea yields range from 20–25 ц/ha; however, when using intensive technologies, the variety's potential allows for reaching 40–45 ц/ha or more, with rare peak values up to 60–90 ц/ha. A low level of productivity (below 10–15 ц/ha) typically indicates poor agronomic practices or unfavorable environmental conditions.

The target pea yield directly influences the choice of agronomic practices, including the seeding rate, which is optimally 1.2–1.5 million viable seeds per hectare to realize the crop's potential. Additionally, when selecting a variety, the balance between productivity and the plant's biological resistance to lodging and shattering is taken into account.
