Cucurbita moschata is a heat-loving crop with a long vegetation period. Depending on varietal characteristics, early-maturing forms reach maturity in 90–100 days, mid-early in 104–105 days, while mid- and late-maturing varieties require from 110 to 160 days or more to produce a marketable yield.
The duration of vegetation depends on the temperature regime and growing conditions. Optimal development occurs at a temperature of 18–27 °C, whereas a drop in nighttime temperatures below 14 °C delays ripening.
