Plant development is assessed by interphase periods in accordance with the international BBCH scale.
The crop is divided into maturity groups ranging from ultra-early (80–90 days) to mid-late (116–135 days or more). The biological requirement for the sum of active temperatures above +10°C correlates with the duration of the period: early-maturing varieties require about 2000°C, while mid-maturing varieties require about 2150°C.
